Organize your backlog

Use folders, domains, view modes, and filters to organize jobs in the Backlog and keep your workspace tidy.

Keep your Backlog organized with folders, domains, and filters.

The Backlog page has several tools for finding and viewing jobs.

View modes. Two view modes are available via toggle buttons at the top right:

  • Tree view — shows jobs in a hierarchical list with folders. This is the default.
  • Column view — shows jobs in a flat column layout.

Search. A search bar at the top lets you search jobs by title. Use this to quickly find a specific job in a large backlog.

Status filters. Filter pills below the search bar let you filter by status: Ideas, Backlog, Staged, Ready, In Progress, Review, Done, and Issues. Click a pill to toggle it on or off — you can enable multiple filters at once to show jobs across several statuses.

Sorting. A sort button lets you order the backlog by different criteria: newest first, oldest first, name, or priority (ascending or descending).

Member filter. An "All Jobs" dropdown lets you filter by team member. Choose "My Jobs" to see only jobs assigned to you, or select a specific member.

Quick actions. The top of the Backlog also includes buttons for creating a new folder and refreshing the view. These provide faster access to actions also available through the right-click context menu.

Domain sidebar

The left side of the Backlog page has a Domains panel that helps you filter jobs by area of work.

  • The sidebar lists all domains in your workspace with a job count next to each name.
  • Click a domain to filter the backlog to only show jobs assigned to that domain.
  • No Domain at the top filters for jobs that have not been assigned to any domain.
  • Click the + button next to the "Domains" heading to create a new domain. Enter a name and it becomes available for job assignment immediately.
  • Right-click a domain to edit or delete it.

Domains are also used for filtering on the Board, Activity, and Analytics pages.

Create a folder

  1. In the Backlog, right-click and select New Subfolder.
  2. Enter a name for the folder (for example, "Sprint 1", "Bug Fixes", or "Feature Work").
  3. Click Create Folder.

Nest folders

You can create folders inside folders for deeper organization:

  1. Right-click an existing folder.
  2. Select New Subfolder.
  3. Name the subfolder and click Create Folder.

Move jobs into folders

Drag jobs from the Backlog root or from other folders into the folder you want. You can also drag jobs between folders to reorganize.

Rename a folder

  1. Right-click the folder.
  2. Select Rename.
  3. Enter the new name and save.

Delete a folder

  1. Right-click the folder and select Delete.
  2. If the folder contains jobs or subfolders, choose what to do:
    • Move to parent — jobs and subfolders are moved to the parent folder (or root level). Nothing is lost.
    • Delete everything — all jobs and subfolders inside are permanently deleted.
  3. Click Delete Folder.

Empty folders are deleted immediately without prompting.

Stage and unstage jobs

Jobs in the Backlog can be staged to make them visible on the board:

  • Right-click a folder and select Stage All in Folder to stage every job inside.
  • Select Unstage All in Folder to move them back.

Individual jobs can be staged by dragging them to the Staged column on the board.

Ideas

Ideas are lightweight jobs created on a canvas during early planning. They appear in the Backlog and can be filtered using the Ideas status pill.

Each idea in the Backlog has an amber dot indicator labeled "Idea - promote to backlog". Click it or right-click the idea and select Promote to Backlog to convert it into a regular job. Promoting moves the idea from the Ideas status to the Backlog status so it can be staged, prioritized, and worked on.

Ideas that belong to a canvas group appear under a read-only canvas folder in the Backlog (see below).

Canvas folders

When you create a group on a canvas, a corresponding folder appears in the Backlog. Canvas folders are read-only in the Backlog view — manage the jobs from the canvas instead. You can drag idea jobs out of a canvas folder into a regular folder to promote them to the Backlog.
